BIOGRAPHY

In 2019 I was proud to be elected to serve as the Member of Parliament for Warrington North. I am immensely grateful to be returned in 2024 with an increased majority. Now being on the Government benches I want to repay the faith that the people of Warrington North have shown in me and get on with the job of rebuilding Britain.

In the last parliament I held the previous Conservative government to account through the COVID-19 Pandemic and the other challenges we faced. As well as serving as Shadow Minister for Women and Equalities, I tabled thousands of written questions, made interventions in the chamber and served on three select committees that scrutinised the detail of government policy: Business and Trade, European Scrutiny and European Statutory Instruments.

In 2021, I brought forward the Transport (Disabled Passenger Charter) Bill to guarantee disabled people’s rights on public transport, which was accepted by the previous government.

As co-Chair of the All-Party Nuclear group I strengthened the case for a new generation of nuclear power in both parties, and I championed support for the pubs industry and for helping people with MS as Chair of those groups.

I have spent most of my adult life living in the North West. I studied at the University of Liverpool and I have been coming to Warrington since I was a child to spend time with family friends in Culcheth.

Before entering Parliament, I worked for the trade union GMB and was involved in campaigning for better treatment for Amazon workers, against the imposition of ‘Contract Six’ in ASDA and making the case to government for investment in low carbon nuclear technology which will help secure the future of quality jobs in places like Sellafield and Wood Nuclear in Birchwood.

Prior to this, I worked for the trade union Usdaw, where I was directly involved in negotiations on the pay and conditions of workers in Warrington at the Hermes, Yodel and XPO Logistics depots.
