Warrington North MP Charlotte Nichols was on hand to officially open a new free breakfast club at St Ann’s CE Primary School in Orford.
The Government is delivering on its promise to launch free breakfast clubs at schools across the country, as the latest opens at St Ann’s CE Primary School in Orford.
From April, over 300,000 children nationally will benefit from free breakfast clubs, with more than 500 new primary schools joining the programme. This initiative aims to support families with the cost of living by providing a nutritious breakfast and early childcare. The rollout will also help ensure children start the school day ready to learn, while supporting parents to better balance work and family life.
Schools already taking part in the free breakfast club programme have served more than 7 million breakfasts, saving families up to £450 a year and giving parents up to 95 hours back each year in the morning rush. Evidence also shows breakfast clubs improve attendance, behaviour and attainment.
Ms. Nichols said: “It was great to be at the opening of the new free breakfast club at St Ann’s CE.”
“Free breakfast clubs will make a real difference locally – ensuring children start the day ready to learn, while helping parents get to work and easing household costs.”
“I’m proud our country is investing in children’s futures and putting families first.”
Mrs Kate Keen, Headteacher said: “We are incredibly proud to open our new free breakfast club, the Sunrise Squad, which gives every child a filling breakfast and a positive start to the school day.
“It was a pleasure to welcome MP Charlotte Nichols for the ribbon cutting, marking a programme that will support our pupils’ wellbeing while also helping working families with the cost of childcare.”
Ms. Nichols is encouraging more primary schools to sign up ahead of September, when the programme will expand further to reach 680,000 children. Schools can sign up on the Government website: free-breakfast-clubs.education.gov.uk
