A COMMUNITY group has been praised for its work supporting a popular green space.
Charlotte Nichols MP visited the Friends of Birchwood Forest Park to meet volunteers and learn more about their work to maintain the park and support the community.
During the visit, Ms Nichols joined the team for tea and home-made cake, discussed their plans for a free Santa’s Grotto later this year, and heard about other initiatives led by the group.
Ms Nichols said: “Thank you to the Friends of Birchwood Forest Park for their service to our community throughout the year, including through their volunteer-led café, the proceeds of which support the up-keep of the park and community initiatives in the local area.
“It was lovely to meet some of the volunteers this week and have a natter over a brew and cake about the work they do, and what I can do to support them in my role.
“After a summer with another successful Proms in the Park and Birchwood Carnival, they’re getting ready for Christmas (which is less than 100 days away!) and the free Santa’s Grotto event which will be a great way to get all the family in the festive spirit.
“Keep an eye on their Facebook page for all the details you’ll need, and if you’re passing by the park in the meantime, why not pop in for the tea and cake for a great cause?”
The Friends of Birchwood Forest Park run a volunteer-led café to raise funds for park upkeep and wider community projects.
Birchwood Forest Park is a valued green space in Warrington, with the group playing a central role in its care for many years.
