Labour MPs’ conference break with Liverpool One tag rugby league game

A WARRINGTON MP joined fellow politicians in taking a break from the current Labour party conference to have a game of tag rugby league.

Warrington North MP Charlotte Nichols and Labour MPs from across Lancashire and Yorkshire came together this afternoon, Tuesday, for the match at Liverpool One’s Chavasse Park.

The event gave parliamentarians a chance to enjoy some light-hearted competition during the Labour party conference in Liverpool.

Sports Minister Steph Peacock led Yorkshire to victory, with her side featuring Leeds and England legend Jamie Jones-Buchanan MBE.

The opposing Lancashire side was led by St Helens North MP David Baines, who is chair of the rugby league all-party Parliamentary group, and included league legend Adrian Morley and St Helens women and England captain Jodie Cunningham.

Tony Sutton, chief executive of the Rugby Football League, said: “It was a wonderful event, with more than 20 MPs involved from constituencies all over the country.

“All were thrilled by the quality of the event and the perfect setting at Chavasse Park, in the heart of the city and so close to the conference centre.

“We thank all at Liverpool One for their warm welcome and professionalism.”
