Charlotte Nichols MP has praised the impressive work taking place at Sellafield’s Warrington base.
The MP for Warrington North and chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Nuclear Energy visited Sellafield Ltd’s offices at Hinton House in Birchwood, where she met staff and apprentices contributing to nationally significant nuclear projects.
The Warrington teams play a crucial role in supporting the UK’s nuclear decommissioning and clean-up efforts.
Ms Nichols said: “The work being done in Warrington is very impressive.
“Our town provides the skill and technical expertise that drives Sellafield’s UK clean-up mission, and I was incredibly impressed with the staff and apprentices I met that are helping to deliver on that mission.
“I am a long-standing supporter of the nuclear industry in Warrington and will continue to support the investment in training and skills we need to keep these high-skilled jobs secure in our town.”
Employees in Birchwood are involved in design, engineering, and commissioning for critical infrastructure, contributing directly to the progress of the wider nuclear energy sector.
During the visit, Ms Nichols met design apprentices and viewed footage of nationally important decommissioning work at legacy facilities, which supports Sellafield’s UK clean-up mission.
Chris Miles from Sellafield’s major projects client team said: “There are hundreds of people in Warrington helping to deliver projects that support the Sellafield mission.
“It was fantastic to show Charlotte the benefits of collaboration with our supply chain partners and the positive impact this work has had locally and nationally.”
Sellafield Ltd was a pioneer in the development of the nuclear industry in the UK.
Now, as global experts in the safeguarding of special nuclear materials, their priority is the safe and secure stewardship of the country’s stores of special nuclear materials.
The company is constructing modern waste retrieval, processing, and storage facilities as part of its mission.
Euan Hutton, chief executive of Sellafield Ltd, said: “It was a pleasure to host Charlotte, who is a strong advocate for the vital work being carried out in Warrington.
“We were able to highlight some of the exciting projects and career paths available to our apprentices, and we look forward to sharing further progress on our mission to make the UK a safer place for future generations.”
