MP completes record-breaking London Marathon raising funds for Warrington Wolves Foundation

Warrington North MP Charlotte Nichols completed the 2026 London Marathon yesterday, raising over £2,300 for the Warrington Wolves Foundation, with funds still coming in.

Crossing the finish line along The Mall, Ms Nichols marked her third completion of the iconic 26.2-mile course. Her participation this year carried extra significance as it coincided with the 150th anniversary of the Warrington Wolves rugby league club.

Commenting at the finish line Ms Nichols saiid: “It didn’t quite go to plan, as I picked up a bit of a niggle around Mile 22 and limped through the last section in absolute bits, but I’m trying to focus on the positives: finishing, running into Steph who was also doing the marathon for the The Warrington Wolves Foundation round the course, surpassing my fundraising target, getting fed Percy Pigs by my mum and my sister at Mile 18, seeing my friends and their signs at Mile 8, and the fantastic atmosphere and support all the way round. It’s been quite the day and I’m glad it’s done!

“The fundraising page is still open, so if you’ve been waiting to see me finish before donating – now’s your chance!”

The MP chose to support the Warrington Wolves Foundation because of its extensive community work, which includes:

  • Men’s mental health initiatives
  • Disability sports and inclusive rugby league programmes
  • Support for children and older residents to combat isolation and promote fitness

“I am very proud to see the incredible work they do to change local lives through the power of sport” Ms Nichols stated prior to the race. She highlighted the foundation’s role in tackling “holiday hunger” and fostering “community pride”.

She prepared for the event with the Orford Running Club and frequent appearances at the town’s Parkrun events. Just weeks before the race, she completed an 18-mile training run as she edged closer to her fundraising target.

Ms Nichols was part of a record-breaking field in 2026, with over 59,000 runners taking part in the capital. Her three completions now place her among the record-holders for the most London Marathons finished by a sitting female MP.

Asked about returning to the start line after previous challenges, she joked that she had “broadly memory-holed the experience,” comparing the decision to sign up again to the way people conveniently forget the pains of past experiences to take on a new challenge.
